High-Five to Paying off TechnoRV!

Click the video title to expand the video.  Otherwise, feel free to just watch Eric on our celebratory night of getting debt free!

For those that don’t know how we suddenly sold our house, quit our jobs, and moved out of Mobile several years ago….we bought an e-commerce site almost 3 years ago in order to fund our full-time RV life.  There are a lot of other ways people are funding this travel lifestyle…like TONS…but we decided we wanted to take an existing company that had potential and make it our own.  (If you are even halfway considering doing it…just do it!)  For us, website development, SEO, HTML and everything else that goes into building a website wasn’t something we had experience in, and we needed income sooner rather than later in order to really live the life we wanted.  Buying a business that had a foundation laid allowed us to fast forward to the growth part of owning a company.

It sounded rather counter intuitive to spend the money we had saved to travel in order to be able to have money to travel, but that is exactly what we did.  We took a chunk of the money we had saved over the years and bought a business.  We wanted to keep an emergency fund in savings, plus some for college, so we financed a portion of the purchase as well.  Tyler and Ryley were in college at the time and knew we wanted to pay cash for their tuition.  Ally was also about to graduate from high school and we knew we would have some education expenses there too. Made sense to save money, right?  We didn’t want to punish them for our stupid mistakes and flake out when it came to their college even though we were hoping this wasn’t stupid.  We also realized this loan would give us yet another expense on the road to cover, but we were willing to take the risk for the reward.  Someone this week was talking to us about the definition of an entrepreneur and it is this:  “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.”  Buying TechnoRV was a financial risk for us for sure, and we had to commit to a lot of work to get it to where we wanted (and needed) it to be to quit our jobs and rely 100% on it.

Fast forward 3 years, and we have grown TechnoRV substantially plus it completely funds our life, travels, and more.  It has grown to more than we expected and we are so glad we took the risk 3 years ago.  With the 3-year anniversary coming up soon, we decided to officially pay our 2nd business loan off (big high-five here!)  We sent the final payment today and couldn’t feel better about it.  We have worked really hard over the past 3 years and are beyond happy about the decision we made.  We have learned more in the past 3 years than either of us did in our 6+ years of college and graduate school, I’m guessing.  We are by no means experts in entrepreneurship, but we have learned enough to know that we don’t ever want to work for anyone but ourselves ever again! We have also learned that we can accomplish anything if we put our minds to it.  Finally, we have learned we are a great team and complement each other well which has been an important part of not only spending 24/7 together in a small area, but also running a business together…even if it is at 9 PM on a Saturday night.

There are so many other people living this life of travel, and we are so blessed to be a part of them.  We are so glad we took the leap years ago to let go of our fears, possessions, careers, and future plans to live this incredible life where our office view changes weekly, our schedules are our own, and we are able to meet so many great people we would have otherwise never crossed paths with.  We love our Let Go Life, and we encourage you to find (and fight) for yours!

Thanks, Julie! It definitely feels good. We’ve tried really hard since doing the Dave Ramsey thing years ago to not get into any debt, and this was a hard decision for us. Luckily, it paid off in the end, and Dave can be proud again. 🙂

Cool, Audra! How long are you guys in the park? I think we pull out Friday. We are going to try to visit Mammoth Cave tomorrow before we head to the Smoky Mountains this weekend. Maybe we could get together for a drink one evening before we leave. I’m guessing we will go out Thursday night so I can avoid a dirty kitchen the day before we leave. 🙂 Tami

Hello. Congrats on your business I heard about your story through the podcast you recently did with RV Entrepreneur. Can you recommend a business broker company to use for purchasing an online business?

    Thanks in advance
