November 2017 – Time to Head Home

After 10 months of traveling, it was time to head back to Alabama!  We started November in Tuscaloosa to visit Tyler and catch a couple of Alabama games. then headed back to Mobile for the holidays.

If you know Eric, then you know he is a huge Alabama fan.  If I didn’t put my foot down, he’d have our RV and Jeep covered in Bama merchandise. (We already have a Bama flag outside on the RV and one on the Jeep, a Bama tag on the front of the RV, crimson and white pom poms on the RV dash, and Roll Tide vinyl on our RV door.)  We still use Alabama as our state of residence although taxes are higher than other states we could claim, but Eric refuses to not have an Alabama tag and license.  To say he is Roll Tide is an understatement.  As a matter of fact, all 4 of the Johnson brothers are huge fans, and spending time with his older brother Mike and wife Angie at games is one of the highlights of his year.

We stay at a place in Tuscaloosa called Coaches Corner, and although it was new last year and not full during game time, this year it was packed and ready to party! The owner told us he was almost booked solid for next year’s season, but we were lucky enough to secure a spot for the entire 2018 season before we left, so we will be spending most of the season next year in TTown!  Roll Tide!

After the games, we headed back to Mobile to hang out with my family and Ally, our daughter.  We are fortunate enough to be able to stay on family property while in Mobile where we have full hookups and complete privacy.  We are walking distance from my parents and only minutes from Ally.  It’s a great time to wind down the year, spend time with family, and get ready for the next year of travel which begins in January.  There are always doctor, dentist, and vet appointments to make, RV purging to be done, and plenty of TechnoRV work to catch up on during our time back in Mobile, but it is a relaxing time as well and the only time of year we stay put for more than 2 weeks.  Well, I take that back.  We did move the RV for Thanksgiving week when my parents got a cabin (and campground site for us and Lincoln) at the Gulf State Park for the extended family.

Although I grew up going to the Gulf State Park every summer, I was amazed at how nice the campground was.  I see it through new eyes now after staying at hundreds of other parks throughout the past couple years.  The sites are large, the park has nice amenities, and the location is incredible!  I highly recommend it if you are looking for a place to stay on the Gulf Coast.  We had a great time with my sister and her family and played hours of cards, cooked some fabulous meals, and even got in a few rounds of corn hole at night by the fire.

The day after we returned from Gulf Shores, we headed off on a business trip to Kentucky.  We visited the RVIA RV Trade Show in Louisville to see the new products and RVs for 2018.  We left the RV (and Lincoln) back in Mobile and traveled by air to Kentucky.  Ally was sweet enough to RV-sit for us to be sure old-man Binkers was safe and sound while we were gone.  After only a couple of days away, we were so relieved to be back home in the RV.  We love to travel, but we want to bring our house and everything in it when we do.  Sleeping in a hotel bed sucks.  Packing (and forgetting things because you never have to pack) sucks.  Having to eat out every meal sucks.  Need I go on?

As I sit here writing this though, we are back home in our cozy RV, just like we like it!  It’s December 1st, and I guess I need to start my shopping soon.   It will be Christmas before you know it.  Happy Holidays!
